Hi everyone.

I am considering organizing a short (maybe half-day) lapping event at Mecaglisse. Those of you who were at last June's Summer Drift '04 event will remember the asphalt track. But there is a lot more available in the winter.

Here are some pics of the winter facilities:

Anyway, I'm considering organizing a winter lapping day sometime in Jan or maybe Feb. This will NOT be a formal driving school (i.e., there will be NO instruction). This is NOT an official BMW Club of Quebec event in any way! This is just a private lapping day for some friends to have a little fun. If we like the track and find it safe, then we will consider running a formal BMW Club of Quebec winter driving school at the facility in the future.

Cost will probably be something like $50 per registrant for a half day of lapping and we will have to limit registration to maybe 10-15 people tops.

I'll be there with the Evo (of course). Who else would be interested? Andrei? Lee? I need some firm numbers before booking the facility.

Could be a fun day for sure. Hopefully with temperatures above -20 :)

Hi guys,

I'm still working on putting together a private winter lapping day for us at Mecaglisse (http://www.mecaglisse.com/). Unfortunately, this will have to be on a weekday in order to keep costs down.

In the meantime, Mecaglisse management is hosting their own winter lapping day this Saturday (Jan. 8th), which will be open to everyone. Cost will be $129 for a full day (10am to 4pm) or $99 for a half day (either 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm). Prices include insurance and all taxes.

I know it's short notice, but I plan to go. If you guys are interested, please contact Mecaglisse management directly at info@mecaglisse.com or call them at (819) 424 3324.

If you do plan to go, please let me know and we can arrange a caravan up to the facility.

Hope to see you there,

Emre

Three of us from the BMW Club (me, Lee, and Jack) made the drive up to St. Donat yesterday along with my friend Antoine from the Mistubishi Club. It was a beautiful day, but the course was very icey and unbelieveably slick.

The first session was the best as there was enough packed snow that we could really get some traction. It's too bad I couldn't get my video camera working! Within a half an hour or so, all the snow had been brushed away and we were left with huge patches of bare ice with very little traction at all. At this point, there was so little grip that you really couldn't do much of anything in the corners (even the guys with rally-prepped VW's and older Audi Quattros running studded snows had trouble).

Overall, it was a fun day...but also very frustrating! A little more grip would have made the day a LOT more fun. Anyway, I'll try to post some pics or video clips if I can.

PS: Emre, I think your friend Jack wanted a few pictures of them and the Carrera. I took a few ones while he was driving too (to the extent of what I could get from where I was standing).
