Hi everybody I'm new here from Quebec city.I'm looking at buying a 1991 BMW 325iX 4 door.So I searched for this forum to mainly gain technical information about this particular model.More specifically what to look for when buying used regarding known defects and running costs. So if anybody could point me at the right part of the forum to ask that.It would be greatly appreciated.
So hope I can find the info and help and hoping to be a fellow BMW owner.

P.S: Évidemment je parle aussi français.
Hi, Phil.
Hi everybody I'm new here from Quebec city.I'm looking at buying a 1991 BMW 325iX 4 door.I used to own a 1990 325iX sedan. It was a GREAT car and I still sometimes regret selling it. But I needed the money to buy my Evo 8. BTW, tell me more about this Evo of yours! I'm a huge fan.

We do have a technical forum as well. Just post any questions you might have. I know quite a bit about the car (as do some other Club members). I even have the factory service manuals, etc. if you need them.
So hope I can find the info and help and hoping to be a fellow BMW owner.Welcome to the Club. You should try to come to our next Monthly meeting. Details are on the homepage.
See you soon.

Well I mainly want to know it there's anything regarding reliability that I should know of.I know about the profile gasket and also the trick with the A/C liquid but I thought since it's an AWD there must be things that I need to check on the drivetrain.Unfortunately, the car I wanted to buy has been sold. But I doubt it would have been a good buy since the guy didn't know about the problem with the A/C liquid and profile gasket.Anyways, I'll find another one soon.
As for the EVO I don't own one anymore.I used to have an EVO VII GSR and I worked/work on EVOs of my clients.I sold the VII 2 years ago.Excellent car but lacking reliability IMO.I now have an Impreza WRX STi... was always a big fan of the Scooby, had 6 of them over the years.

The profile gasket issue you're referring to was only found in M42-powered E30's (that's the twin-cam, 1.8 liter engine from the E30 318is). The 325iX came with an M20 engine (single cam, 2.5 liter engine). There was NO timing case profile gasket on the M20...so it's not an issue at all. The only major maintenence item on the M20 is the timing belt, which needs to be changed regularly.

I haven't had any major issues with the car so far, but I only have around 21,000 miles on mine and I'm pretty anal about maintenance.

Ahem, transfer case?
Ahem, transfer case? :rolleyes:Yeah, but in all fairness that was the fault of the service techs. The techs back in NJ made the same mistake as the guys at Cite...they didn't use the DL-5 oil. And in the end all the work got covered under warranty...despite everyone's paranoia about Mitsu voiding warranties left and right.
Now that we're using the right oil everything is back in order. I just had the diff fluid flushed last week and it drained clear and clean.

Regarding the iX, I would not buy one with an automatic transmission as the tranies are a bit rough. Usually, the problem on those cars is at the transfer case which is a basic chain driven system. Make sure the timing chain has been serviced in the past 60k km.
