View Full Version : It's time for a show-n-shine meet!
The BMW Club of Quebec is running a bunch of advanced driving schools at various tracks this summer. At each of these events, we will host an informal show-n-shine in addition to the track activities. The show-n-shines will be FREE to enter. This is a great opportunity to go for a drive, hang out, and have some fun.
All you have to do is register in advance so we can make some room for you. Everyone will meet at a certain location then cruise together to the track. You will be allowed through the gates and into the paddocks where you will be able to set up your car. Everyone will get FULL access to the paddocks and ALL areas of the facility. You can hang out with the drivers, watch some racing, and have fun.
In fact, if you bring a helmet and sign a waiver, you can even get a ride with some of the instructors.
The first combined track event & show-n-shine is coming up on Saturday May 7th at Sanair Motorsports Complex in St-Pie, Quebec (about 30 minutes from Montreal). Here's the LINK (http://www.bmwquebec.ca/bmw/upcoming_events/sanair_2005) for full details. If you guys are interested, please post here and let us know.
Hope to see you there!

As long as it has some wheels and a motor then it is admissible.

I'll buy a scooter then and even put some BMW stickers on it ;)
"In fact, if you bring a helmet and sign a waiver, you can even get a ride with some of the instructors."
Cool, so this should work at Sanair? I'll make sure to bring mine if it does.

However, we'll do everything we can to make sure that Club members get out on the track, even if it's just for one or two sessions. So, if you have a helmet you should definitely bring it along!

can we just come and watch??? my car isnt really modded for a track.....
can we just come and watch??? my car isnt really modded for a track.....Of course! Everyone is welcome. Don't forget, this is a lapping day (for advanced drivers and racers only) as well as an informal show-n-shine meet. If you want to take part in the meet, just join the cruise from downtown. Antoine can give you the details.
BTW, if you like what you see, you might consider signing up for the Mecaglisse driving school. Unlike our Sanair event, this will be a FORMAL driving school with in-car instruction, classroom instruction, etc. You DO NOT need any mods on your car...a stock street car is fine.

It's a BMW! It will do fine on the track. Especially for a beginner.
I'll buy a scooter then and even put some BMW stickers on it ;).
Isn't that what basically a Honda is?

who said beginner
j/p, ill come check it out, just gotta get my car fixed, i cracked a rim tonight:(
who said beginner :rolleyes:LOL. I'm sure Andrei didn't mean "beginner street driver" but "track novice." Even very experienced street drivers are pretty slow on the track for their first few events. The wear and tear on the car is pretty minimal at that level, so you really don't need any mods to the car.

i got on the highway at st charles, i was driving around 100, pull into the third lane, i notice a yellow line on the road, then i hear a huge and i mean HUGE crashing sound, i pul back to the left, i was a fireman hose, in the middle of the highway..... and i hit the huge metal connectors. theyre like 6 inches big and dont break..... i thought i broke my precious m-technik, and cracked both driver side wheels, anyway later on i noticed my rear tire was low, i took it off put it in water and...................air was coming out of my mag, then i went in for a closer inspection, and my rim is cracked.
im so pissed, and i dont the company makes my rims in 18 anymore i think they make just 20,22,and 24
i might have to order the same model in chrome and get it redone.:(

well we should organize a meeting point and times for both cruises. i live in the west island, so i could meet up with the people from ottawa and toronto.
This is official then? Meet at 11 orange julep?
...There will be a cruise organized for people heading in from Montreal. We will be meeting at the Orange Julep on Saturday morning. The Julep is the big spherical orange building on Decarie and Jean-Talon street in Montreal. The cruise will leave around 11:00AM in order to be at the track around lunch time. There will also be a cruise from Ottawa (led by Sylvain, aka "blaze_125") who will meet the Montreal people at the Julep.
There should also be a cruise leaving Toronto early on that morning if enough people from TO are joining us. Please let us know if you are interested in the cruise, we will be arranging schedules...

what time are the guys from ottawa meeting in montreal at? why dont we meet at fairview with the guys from ottawa and toronto.
This is official then? Meet at 11 orange julep?Yes, that was the time and place decided by the organizers of the cruise/meet. Personally, I find it a little late...but people are driving in from Toronto and Ottawa, so we needed to give them enough time to get to Montreal before everyone could leave.
what time are the guys from ottawa meeting in montreal at?Like it says in the announcement, 11am at the Orange Julep.
why dont we meet at fairview with the guys from ottawa and toronto. The Julep is a site known to everyone, including the crowd from Toronto and Ottawa. Plus, it's right on the Decarie. That's why it was selected by the organizers, Sylvain and Antoine.

nice, so how many people are going to be expected at the meet, i'm coming for sure
nice, so how many people are going to be expected at the meet, i'm coming for sureFrom what I hear, at least 30-40 people have already registered for the meet. We will have limited the number of drivers to 36. That means there will be more at the meet than on the track!

there is a thread with a list of people coming. We will try to update each club's thread with the full list as time permits.
Shouldn't we start our list now? Hope this doesn't freak anyone out, but it's in 2 weeks. :)
Is it possible there will be too many people at show n shine?
How many drives will there be? Only a gigantic one from julep at 11? aren't the people who track supposed to get there very early?

Is it possible there will be too many people at show n shine? That shouldn't be a problem. There is tons of room. So far, something like 30-40 people have registered. We should have plenty of room.
How many drives will there be? Only a gigantic one from julep at 11? aren't the people who track supposed to get there very early? The drivers will be at the track at 7am. The show-n-shine guys will be arriving around noon. If you want to come to the track earlier, we can probably work something out.
Emre
Can I ask why so early? 7am at the track measn waking up really really early. How is the day split up? If it's interesting, and it's not a problem, I might be curious to come.
Can I ask why so early? 7am at the track measn waking up really really early. How is the day split up? If it's interesting, and it's not a problem, I might be curious to come.Well, driving starts at 8 am and we need time to set up, register drivers, etc. before the day can kick off at 8.
Tracks are generally open from 8 am to either 4 or 5 pm. We are paying a tremendous amount of money for track time: for example, a weekend at Tremblant can cost the Club over $50,000. So we're not going to throw away track time we paid a fortune for for just to sleep in for a couple of hours. Besides, we have 4 run-groups (novice, intermediate, advanced/solo, and instructor) that need to rotate on and off the track throughout the day.
We recognize that the show-n-shine crowd would not appreciate waking up at dawn. That's why they're leaving downtown Montreal at 11 am and arriving at the track at noon. That should give everyone time to get up, wash/detail their cars, get breakfast, and take their time.

The 3 groups (Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto) will meet at the Julep. They will LEAVE the Julep at 11am. So you should plan to be there before 11am if you want to join the cruise to the track.
i don wanna show up and no one will be thereAt least 30-40 people have already registered on various forums. I don't think you have to worry about being alone!
Emre
Ok, guys. I've started an official www.bmwquebec.ca list:
