As many of you know SSR went bankrupt in January. Now it seems the business was bought out by Tanabe.

Here is my source of info:

Oh my, I didn't know that....

Do you know how that will affect sales and cost?

I was interested in the SSR Type C (euro blue black), or Competition (Anthracite, machined lip) 16 inch rims

Even E30 M3 club racers run 15" wheels. They're much lighter and more responsive. The Kosei K1 is by far the most popular wheel you'll see on a track-driven E30.

Tirerack kept selling the wheels through all of this without changing prices. I don't expect a price increase but I would expect a few product lines to go away.

The SSR Competition will not go away. Half the field at Grand Am runs them, numerous club racers, many track junkies.

BTW SSR Type C is the SSR Competition. Type C is the JDM name for it. It comes in slightly different colors in Japan but it is the same wheel. The box from my SSR Comp says Type C on it.

tirerack invested millions in SSR branding and marketing (rights, distribution and whatnot included)... I wouldn't be surprised if tirerack keeps(buys) the whole SSR brandname.

Remember, Speed Star Wheel was a big multi-wheel-brand company that went bankrupt. SSR was(is) only the brandname of a line of products.

Anyway, my guess is that tirerack will keep selling SSR wheels
