Here's a cool vid of Walter Rohrl piloting an Audi Sport Quattro S1 in the ill-fated 1986 Port Wine Rally of Portugal. Complete with 1980's soundtrack ;)

The shots of Rohrl's footwork are really something. But what's truly amazing to watch is how the cars sail through seas of spectators! No wonder Gruppe B got canned.

For those of you who don't know, the 1986 Port Wine Rally was the one in which the Ford RS200 left the stage and killed 3 spectators (and injured dozens more). This was the end of Gruppe B.

It's a great video. I remember seeing him at Mosport in the late 80's when Audi was running in Trans Am. He sat back in 3rd for the first half of the race to save his tires and then made his move and won the event without too much trouble. The Audis were the class of the field even with all the extra lead bolted to the car. Unfair advantage indeed; Trans Am banned awd the following season.

I have Ari Vatanen's climb up Pikes Peak (Climb Dance) which is some of the best in car footage I've ever seen. I also have some footage of Peugeot 205 Group B cars along with a Lancia Delta Integrale if anyone is interested.

mind-blowing.

seeing all those people standing inches away from race cars doing triple-digit speeds on a dirt road ... especially the retards standing on the OUTSIDE of curves and watching the cars sail by all sideways

I know the drivers are amazing but there's always the possibility of a puncture or mechanical failure ... I guess the survival instinct isn't too well honed over there.

Hey, that's the exciting part of it! After all in rally racing, you get to see each car passing by only once.

As for risky, what about those dumb fools who run with the bulls barging through the narrow streets in Spain?
