GranTurismo 1-2-3 and 4 helped me cure a few bad habits such as late braking. The games do not reflect more than 40% of the feedbacks a car will send you, but it is better than nothing during the long winter months. The suspension adjustments also can help a novice understand how it works. Great find Eric.

Yes, Gran Turismo lacks the feedback. But that forces you to drive fundamentally correctly without feeling it. Once you get in a real car the same motions would be rewarded with great feedback.

Last night I did a 1:42 flat on my 7th lap. It is definitely possible to do at least 1.5 seconds better. A low 1:41 is pretty good.

I've always been a fan of Grand Prix Legends. There are a Ton of different maps out there Tremblant included. 400 hp in a 1500lb car makes you very gentle with your inputs.

when Clarkson talks about "fear" and the natural "sense of autopreservation" that prevents you from going 95-100% even though you "could"...
I experienced the same thing at mosport in corner 2. I had an instructor instructing me on HOW to take the corner... and I had seen HOW the corner had to be taken as a passenger with my instructor... and I DID understand HOW that corner had to be taken.... I still couldn't commit 100%.
Only the last lap of the last session with constant encouragements from my instructor did I somewhat "nail" that corner... AND IT STILL WAS SCARY
I thought with the numbers of cars Clarkson drove, and the number of lessons he must have had by the best instructors in the world... he would have had more confidence than that on a stock NSX.... (or the corkscrew is really one hell of a scary corner).

(or the corkscrew is really one hell of a scary corner).Only problem is that Clarkson is a hack of a driver. He's good at showboating at sliding a car around...but he's quite a poor driver.
I'd love to see Clarkson try his hand at the "star in a reasonably priced car" bit. My guess is he'd place pretty low on the board, despite knowing the Top Gear test track better than anyone.

One of the reasons why I prefer Fifth Gear over Top Gear lies on the fact that Vicky, Tiff and Jason are much better drivers and have a competition carrer behind them to back their comments on how a car feels or should drive. This is a driver's show. On the opposite corner, if you like fat jokes and British car Nepotism, then pick Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, the tiny guy and the old guy. They are good at throwing jokes at each other, but behind a steering wheel, they are no better that you and I.

Definitely...
when clarckson drove the koenigsegg CCR he was blown away and made it sound like it was an insane car with insane engineering and charactheristics..
when Tiff Needell drove the car he said it was a piece of undriveable crap
I'd rather believe Tiff :D
Both Tiff and Jason have been professional drivers (Jason actually still drives in the Birtish touring championship). And even Vicky, with a somewhat more humble driving career is AGES ahead of clarckson and his bunch..
this season Top Gear was exceptionally dull...

I finally got back where I have my PS, and had a chance to try laguna seca with the NSX. I did 1.48 at my first lap, and 1.42 flat after some other laps... then started fooling around with the picture mode and finally entered a race, lol.
Had forgotten how cool this game is :D
anyway, a 1.41 is good. But it can be improved by atleast 2 seconds. Clarkson must have practiced for minimum a week...

For a relatively experieced GT4 player(me, for example) it would take one evening to get a 1:39. But only if I am sober. I remember trying GT4 after 3 beers and the quality of driving (in terms of lap time) was way off. A good exercise for people to be convince that alcohol does indeed affect driving ability. It doesn't eliminate it outright (in moderate amounts) but it certainly has a negative effect.
I'm fooling around with the list of Horst von Saurma, from sport auto magazine, just for fun. Want to see how cars in GT4 compare to their real-life counterparts and how accurate the game is...
Haven't had much time to try it yet, only had the chance to do 1 lap. Tryied the ring with a stock 350z (bought it without changing anything but with all electronic aids disabled). and I did a 8.09 at my first lap, almost 20 seconds less than what Horst did... and I could have done much better! I still find it amazingly accurate. (in the game the 350z can go past 250kmh, while in real life it can't)

You guys should try Live For speed.
Incredible game as far as suspension setting and such. The only part that is far from perfect are the tires. Seams like it is more like a ON/OFF switch as far as grip goes. But temperature is working as expected.

Enjoy!
That sounds pretty good! And looks great! I will give it a try, but unforunately I don't have a PC steering wheel.
