From the CASC Newsletter:

Calabogie Scheduled for 2006 Race Championships

CASC Ontario’s 2006 race season includes a round at Calabogie Motorsport Parkfor the first time this season. The as-yet unpaved circuit has reportedly been approved by the Ontario Municipal Board, and is expected to be ready before the Motorsport Club of Ottawa’s July 29-30 raceweekend.

Two appeals have been filed against the approval, though quick resolutions are expected.

From Chris Pawlowicz of the Ottawa Chapter:

last I heard was

-OMB said 'go'
-anti-track filed an appeal (based on their original argument)
-appeal is to be heard February

if appeal is killed, paving in may, driving in july/august

just like last year :)

That would be great. But even though the track is already graded, the snow will not fully melt before end of April. The soggy ground will require two more months before being ferm enough to pave. Which means that paving would not start before June. Asphalt will then require 3 more months to sit and heat-cycle. This would put us in September.

Let's cross our fingers and hope that the track's schedule is realistic. Our chapter calendar did not include any Calabogie event for 2006, but hopefully we will be there in 2007.

Casc might be just hoping it will be open because they have nowhere else available. The two tracks they normally use may already be booked. I know that there is a PCA Club Race at Mosport the 28,29, 30 . Is Shannonville booked too? Rennsport does not have any events planned for Calaboogie this year and one of the principles is a Rennsport Instructor. I teased Bruce about asphalt three weeks ago and his answer was, " stay tuned". Saw him at Karting in Ottawa two weeks ago with Rennsport Ottawa and there was no mention of the track, or asphalt. I think he is tired of disappointing people and won't promise anything until the asphalt starts pouring out of the trucks.
If it does open this year, I'm sure there will be a Rennsport D.E. added to the schedule.
