My E24 always had this weird hissing sound (coming from inside the engine compartment) that lasts about 2 seconds. With every 3 or 4 brake pedal application the hissing sound would come on magically and would repeat itself upon another 3 or 4 pedal applications. I managed to ignore this as it did not seem to affect the braking.
But when I took out the car for the 1st time a few weeks ago, the hissing sound now comes on (always for about 2 seconds at a time) on every single brake application. Vacuum leak? I thought my car uses hydraulics. Any ideas?
