View Full Version : 2 wheels around le Circuit Mt-Tremblant and Mosport
Thanks to Snowmanmtl's suggestion of website for video cameras, I found a few links that depict lapses at le Circuit on motorcycle. This is totally impressive. The sound of 13,000 RPM engines, on two wheels...

If you want some more, look into the gallery at www.onbike.tv and you will find a lap at Mosport.

This is totally impressive.I see they use the bus-stop chicane at the top of Turn 2. They also take some pretty conservative lines through the faster corners. Wussies ;)

This is Peter Carroll's( BMW Trillium & PCA Instructor, and my first Instructor) Tremblant Video with a helmet cam. It's amazing the places you can place these cams . Look Lee, a BMW at Rennsport!
The bike videos are taken by the Quebec Distributor for ONBIKE. He found out quickly that the Bike clubs were too cheap to buy the kits so he joined the club and charges them to follow and video. One way of using video as a learning tool. Much better than in car view as it shows your line and turn in and track out.
Emre the Bus-stop is used for all bike clubs to stop them from going airborne at the top of two. Bike days are usually very busy for the ambulance staff.
Look Lee, a BMW at Rennsport! :rolleyes:Regardless of what you think, Rennsport has made it very clear that BMW's are NOT welcome. I personally know a Porsche-owning Rennsport member who was not allowed to drive his BMW at Tremblant. His Boxster was in the shop so he brought his BMW...and he was turned away from the gates.
Having said that, Rennsport has been known to make some exceptions for a few old instructors. Obviously, they're not going to exclude a guy like Peter Carroll. But that doesn't mean they haven't excluded just about everyone else.

Yeah, I know Peter, as well as Suzanne Lord, his ex-girlfriend. She is a Rennsport club member from Montreal, drives a Porsche 930 (911 Turbo) and a BMW 318 (4 cylinders). She was also forbidden to drive the BMW at Rennsport events. I guess that owners of GT3s fear to be passed by a lowly 4 banger...:D

You're right, BMW s are not accepted at Rennsport at all. Even for those who own Porsches. No exceptions, Peter included, look at the date on the Video.
Who knows, things may change when, if, Calaboogie opens. For now though, they are so over- subscribed that at the first event of the year it was announced that there would be no advancing to higher groups for the whole 2005 season. If an individual insisted of a check ride, they would get it. If they checked out, they would be advanced but could not attend any of the remaining events because there wasn't any room in the group !!! There are a few unhappy campers! Something has to change.
There are a few unhappy campers! Something has to change.
Our chapter will always welcome those unhappy campers. :D
Is it possible that many Rennsport members are plagued by the "lemming effect"? Please, allow me to explain. Those members will only go to events held by their group of drivers (Rennsport). They will not go their own way and attend events from another PCA club (like NER), or even by other clubs (BMW, Audi). I do not understand what comfort they try to reach. Or why they feel threatened outside of Rennsport?

Suzanne, Ex-girlfriend again. When was the last reported sighting. I can't keep track. She was not allowed to drive her BMW when the 930 broke. That was very strange. I can't remember the reasoning but I think they said because she did not register with it?
Emre I think you are thinking of Rodrigo. His Boxster broke and they wouldn't let him drive his 944( porsche). Again, I think they said not the vehicle registered. Yet, some people do get away with vehicle changes. I guess it's called Club politics. Go figure.
I can't remember the reasoning but I think they said because she did not register with it?That's also the explanation I've heard. But it seems disingenuous. After all, as long as the car in question has passed tech inspection for the event and the car numbers are the same...then what's the problem? Many of these "rules" are imposed by a certain hard-headed director and, frankly, he's doing Rennsport a disservice. I know that some of the other Rennsport directors I've spoken with are unhappy about this and there seems to be growing dissatisfaction among the students and instructors.
Anyway, it only helps a club like ours! We remain committed to providing high-quality driving instruction...no matter what car you drive. The most important thing for us is to have motivated, enthusiastic, and safe divers. We don't care if they show up with a Ford Festiva or a Ferrari 288 GTO. The right attitude is everything.
In our own umbrella organization (the BMW Club of Canada), we have witnessed a fierce debate about whether we should exclude certain types of vehicles (i.e., race-prepped cars). Many chapters of the BMW CC have fallen victim to the hype and hysteria surrounding this issue and have banned track-prepped cars. Our position has always been that the important variable is the driver...not what car he or she chooses to drive. The car is just a tool.

Intéressant de voir Tremblant sous un autre angle... très près du sol.

My point with the "unhappy campers" was that Rennsport ( a Porsche Club) does not have the room for it's own members. How could they invite others. You can't argue with that, can you. If they had room and did not allow other makes then I could understand your complaint.

I understand that, even though I find it fishy. How many out of the 110 drivers at an event are actually from PCA Rennsport? Why Suzanne could not use her BMW even though she was a Rennsport member? Can Peter use his M3 at Rennsport events? Nop. Which is why it comes down to badge snobbery. And that "serving the members" is still a lame excuse. We all know how in-bred familys end-up... My comments are obviously not targeted at you... :D

I hear through the grapevine that they DO accept other marques (e.g. the red car with the prancing horse for one).
Yup. They accept Ferrari and I am sure that if I showed up with a Vanquish or a Gallardo, they would not bring the "Porsche only" rule. Anyway, it is not my club and there is nothing I can change about their rules. Their parties, their regulations. Some clubs are owners clubs, some clubs are drivers clubs.

O.k. come on. Yes they still allow Ferraris, but that's it. No, Lambo or anything else. Something about long relationship etc.etc. whatever. Anyway, all clubs try and do their best to run the safest and best organized events. I think Rennsport does a very good job ( as does BMW ) and I guess you do as well otherwise you wouldn't want to be there.
I have been to many different regions of both clubs and I can tell you that they all have good points and bad. I think you're over doing the snob thing. You can buy a 944 na for $5000 ( a la Rodrigo) and have a blast at Porsche Club. You don't have to spend $100k to join.

How did the karting race go today?
snowmanmtl
12-19-2005, 12:17 AM
BMW guys finished 1st and 4th out of 6 teams. Nigel would have been third but was passed by Tom Schuler on the last lap of 261 lap race. 1st 4 teams were within a lap. Would have been better with more teams but it was a Sunday morning. Nigel Bumped Galar a couple of times and got the " evil eye". I guess he didn't know that we Bump Galar just for the fun of it. We should paint a bullseye on his back. " Ramming Speed".
My partner was Frank. He thought we were Purolator employees?? I had to explain to him that we were members of the Porsche club. I guess he doesn't think were snobs.:D

You mean Frank Monroe? If so, this guy is a good driver.
So when is the next race? Would it be under a similar format, or will we be able to form our own teams?

Yup, that's the guy. Very good driver, as was Nigel. Tom Schuler and I are leaving for Ottawa to go Karting with the Rennsport Ottawa) Chapter in about 30 minutes. I guess that's a little too short notice. Rennsport (mtl)has another Karting session on Wednesday at 7pm but it would probably be a good Idea to get in touch with Vincent first. Our Wednesday Nights have been very busy.

Next Karting event is Jan. 11 at 7 pm at Grand Prix Karting. Attendance is starting to drop off so there shouldn't be a problem getting in to drive. Frank has become a regular so he can fill you in.
Tom Schuler of Kartomania will be organizing an event at the end of February( beginning of March) to benefit Hopital Charles Bruneau. Three man ( Dream !) teams, min. weight is 500lbs ( you BMW guys better start Beefing up). He will be inviting all car clubs. By then, he said there wil be a new track configuration and new Karts!

No problem with weight minimum. I figure Frank, myself and either Nigel or John will tip the scale just over the 500lbs.

Frank & Nigel combined are probably 300lbs. So long as you tip scales at 200 you should be o.K.. Although, Galarno is pushing for 540lbs which I find a little high. 180lbs X 3 = ?????
May have to fill your pockets with sand!

So what happens to the underweight teams? Add ballast to the karts to even things out? That is the fairest way. Add ballast to all the lighter teams to equal the weight of the heaviest.

Not sure about weight balancing. I guess so long as it's close they will not do anything. Grand Prix will be closing on Jan. 15.

Let's remember who owns the track and what marque is the favored/official marque. Let's also remember that the BMW club, via the Hansons, gave the first Ferarri schools as part of the Ferarri festival when the track was re-opened, and then the Hansons and BMW were replaced by Porsche.
