I was wondering if I need an oil catch can for the crankcase vent or if a small breather filter was OK for on-track DE events.

Thanks.

Karim.

For DE events, a breather filter is fine. For most competitive events, a catch tank is required. If I were you, I would use a clear catch tank so that you can easily monitor the amount of blow-by. That can help you see how healthy the motor is. On what car will it be?

Check ebay for catch-cans. There are plenty of universal ones for very cheap.

On my car, the catch tank for ther radiator is a 2 litre Evian bottle, and for the oil, it is a heavier semi-clear plastic bottle.

So, 510 for you and 2002 with S14 for Mikey?

Bah! Carboard and plastic bottles work fine... but your 2002 is so clean, why not invest 10$ for some useful candy? :)

beside, proper catch can will last forever without ever having to be replaced

Looks nice. But I'd be curious to see it in person...

I wonder what is the quality of the catch can and the hardware...

I made my own catch can for the radiator. I think it came out nice. I might make my own one for the oil too. I'll think about it.

Thanks for the link.

Why are there 2 ports on the catch cans listed on ebay?

I thought I needed only one, connected to the crankcase for the oil to go to the catch can plus a vent... but then why such a fitting on the second port?

Be carefull with EBay guys (and gals).

Many sellers make their money on shipping. Like this catch can, they charge $28.99usd to ship to Canada, so with exchange, it's not a $10 catch can, but a $51 catch...can.

For example, a mag wheel can be shipped from California to Montreal for $22usd and it weights a lot more.
