Bangle was reponsible for the angular designs of many of the current models. He will be missed but only by some.

I wonder if the legacy of the "Bangle Butt" will live on?

People are always bashing Bangle. But as I look around at modern cars, just about every other manufacturer has stolen something from BMW's designs...including the "Bangle butt."

The "Bangle butt" is not original. There is at least one other car that came with the butt first and it was butt ugly. (the Chrysler Cirrus).

like him or not, he helped advance BMW's styling language by a huge leap

his style didn't work well on all cars (Z4 and 7-series were the main losers here IMO)

but if you look at the 5-series from E28 to E34 to E39 it was always a slow evolution but then the E60 instantly made the E39 look 20 years old.

The E90 is also a really nice design IMO

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder of course. I thought there was a big jump (looks wise and mechanical) from the E28 to E34. It used to be that a BMW had that unique boxy look that was recognizable from far away. Not the case anymore.

I like the E90 look especially for the 2009 MY.

I can't say I am too excited about the 7er or the E60 (I'd already be driving an M5 if not for those Dame Edna headlights).

Bangle did help BMW make cars that came out at the front of the trend.

There was no way BMW could continue to be "unique" like in the old days. Being "unique" doesn't sell huge numbers of cars.

But I can be thankful that to the most part BMWs still drive like BMWs. Perfect combination of luxury and sportiness. And no, BMW was never a sports car company. The compromise was always there and only a few cars tried to dial down the luxury in favor of sport.

It's the first 5er since the original E12 (and, of course, E28) that I truly like. I was never crazy about the styling of the E34. The E39 is better, but still nothing too impressive to me. But the E60 really stands out and looks great in my book.

The only Banglemobiles that drive me nuts are the Z4, Mpoop and 6er.

The only current BMW design I like is the Z4 and especially the M Coupe.

I hope other people go along with you and keep hating them so their values plummet.

The new facelift E90s are beautifull.
