There is no problem in switching over to synthetic. If you drive the M3 in the winter, you will also find an added benefit with synthetic because in cold morning starts, the engine will turn over much easier than using dino oil.

Oh oui, synthétique all the way.

Perhaps that might apply to older cars (built prior to 1980). Gaskets used in those days were made of different materials and were susceptible to leaks using synthetics. Your 95 should be OK.

I wouldn't risk it.. Seen people switch and a few months later the engine starts leaking oil from every seal.

I have been using synthetic on my 87 since 92. No problem with leaks. The previous owner used dino oil only.

Most of the wear happens at start up and that's when synthetics shine. You can check section 4 of the following reference. Very interesting read. All of it actually.

If you are really worried about leaks you can use a 'high mileage' formula every other change. They have additives that 'Puff-up' the bushings material.
And please track that car...

wow ! this reference is very, very technique. I'm not sure to have understand everything (my english is not perfect ) but i got the point :synthetic oil are best, no matter what you got before.
It's a good idea the "high mileage", i did not think of that.
And don't worry, i WANT to track my car. I just have to convice someone first that it's safe ...

You could buy that someone a 325 on good rubber and register you both to track events...
