I have seen this 95 M3 and it look in preaty good condition BUT there is a knock sensor fault code. The number of the code is "1226 c-a-d knock sensor #2".

I've done some research and the only thing that i found is this :"The knock sensor is used to detect pre-ignition that can damage the engine. If the knock sensor is triggered, it will back off the timing of the car, reducing the 'pinging.' A fault is generated if there is an open circuit, a ground fault, or if the sensor sends multiple signals that don't correspond to proper engine operation."

He also said that when he gaz at petro, the code goes away but reapear but when he gaz at ultramar, it always stays on. He also said that with octane booster it make it disapear. Could it be just because of the grade of fuel he take ?

My question is : Is it a dangerous fault code or is it something that i shouln't bother and go buy that car ?

Sounds like he's not using 91 octane gas.

Very easy to change on BMWs. Have the original one rebuilt... Don't exchange it because chances are you'll get a Non M rack.

Gregster,

I have to replace my steering rack next spring. How easy is easy. I read you nead a couple of special tools. And the universal joint can be a pain to remove from the column. I would replace it regardless having 280 000 km +.

I did not know you could have your own rebuit and wait for it. How long does it take ?

If I swap, ZF or Maval ? Or get an M3 rack on Ebay and get that one rebuilt. Is it worth to upgrade to an M3 from 328 ?
I do track the car :-)

Thanks
Congrats on the M3
