Ignition Not working Stuck # 1 Postion

My 1993 318i key is stuck at #1 postion (radio mode) I can take the key out but it won't shut off the pos. #1. Also can't start the car and the steering lock is always on even if the key is in postion 2 or 3.
Feels like the key is not catching, seems to be slipping with no restitance.
Has this happen to anybody? if so what is the fix.
Replace the cylinder?

go see helmut at Bavarian auto clinic and ask him.... surely he knows

euh i know......... your key cylinder is broken thats it ..........it happand to me last year.............but the removal of that is ..........well be carefull ...give the job to a specialist ..........

Removed the cylinder lock and found that the it's the linkage between the key cylinder and the steering lock/ignition switch is broken.
Now I need to replace the whole steering lock assembly. Doen anybody have a link w/ Photos of the removal?
I've heard it's tricky.
Right now I can start the car with a screwdriver to turn the switch and a pair of pliers to unlock the steering.
