Pretty sick prices for R-compounds...

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Dunlop&model=SP+Super+Sport+Race

might not be the best, but at that price... it still might be interesting for M3 owners.... ;)

Yes, those have been popular recently. Good as a first r-comp.

They are a bit out of spec for me...

but almost tempted to buy a set R-tires and track wheels anyway...

5zigen FN01RC
18x9.5 +22 - 279$ each
18x8.5 +30 - 269$ each
Dunlop SP Super Sport Race
255/35ZR18 - 128$ each
265/35ZR18 - 120$ each

Total 1592$ for full set of track wheels + R comps... that's almost less than what I paid only for tires

My quest for expendable decent track wheels continuing...

I found an even better deal...

17" FN01R-C should fit most 14" big brake kits!!! (even stoptech 14.1" it seems...)

Front 19lbs 17x9 + 35 at 204$ each
rear 20lbs 17x10 + 25 at 209$ each

including shipping!! This is like the kosei K1 equivalent for JDM cars :D:D:D (only available in 5-114.3 pcd)

BTW what is the real-life difference between heat-cycled Rcomps, shaved Rcomps and normal ones?

is it a racer only issue or does it make a noticeable difference even on street tracked cars?

55/40ZR17

Advan A032R soft - 165$
Advan A032R shaved - 180$
Advan A032R Heat - 180$

shaved R-comps = better dry grip + scary wet grip + reduced durability.

Basically they shave off part of the tread to reduce tread squirm and heat buildup so you get better grip in the dry. But with reduced tread depth, you're more likely to aquaplane.

Heat-cycling helps the rubber molecules melt together and then form into more durable long strands as they cool ... or something like that. It gives you more grip and better durability without any disadvantages.

If you don't want to pay $20 each to have them heat-cycled, just mount them on the car and do 1 light track session or ~120km at regular highway speeds on a warm day. Then immediately remove the tires from the car and let them rest in a cool, dry place for 24 - 48 hours.
