Hi Howard.
I checked with the registration and it seems to catter to racers (as in a competitive race). I don't think our events comply to the description.
Can't we have a price list for BMWQC members out of the Toyo contingency program? I am interested in a set of 235.40.17 RA-1s, can you email or PM the price then.
TIA

What we need from Toyo is R888 tires in Elise sizes.
I suggest that the sponsor joins us from time to time.

Posting information from Howard at Talon Tires
All questions can be more promptly answered if they are addressed directly to info@talontire.com.
The new Toyo R888 will be released in Canada very shortly. Although there are about 14 sizes available currently in the USA, I would suggest that members be patient a little while longer, as Toyo Canada may have:
- a broader range of sizes than the USA
- more than one compound
- special pricing for BMWCC car club members
- price adjustments to allow for the lower US dollar
Also, please note that the R888 has a tread depth of 6/32” vs. 8/32” on the RA-1. For those looking for a dry and wet tire, the deeper RA-1
may still be the better choice for lapping. For dry track, the R888 will probably be similar to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup or the Yoko A048.
Here again, patience may turn out to be a virtue, as comparison tests and word of mouth will ultimately determine which tire is most
appropriate for your individual members.
Please contact me if you have any other questions about these or any other topics related to our sponsorship or our products.
Regards,
Howard

I have submitted a list of the current club members (with membership #s) to Toyo Canada. In order to qualify for the discount, members must log onto the Toyo site to register and submit their membership #. at: www.toyoracing.com (http://www.toyoracing.com/)
Toyo would cross reference this membership number with the list I submitted. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask

if you have trouble finding where to sign up, here is a direct link : http://www.teamtoyo.ca/en/racingEN.asp
Henry, I guess that members should put their club info in the box labelled "car club" in a format like this :
"BMW Club of Quebec, member # xxx" ?

I believe this is the way to do it, you'd have to try it. All applicants will be screened by Toyo to make sure their club membership is current or the application would be rejected.

All members of BMWCC-Quebec are now eligible for Code 1 (list – 40%) for R888s. All they have to do when applying for Team Toyo membership is to indicate their name & club membership #
I registered today, looking forward to try the R-888 this summer.
Got my Code 1, thanks to Howard, and just ordered a set of 225.50.15 RA1 and will order later a set of R888 when they'll be available.

I just received my Toyo code today.
Howard greatly helped me get my Code 1 approval as initially, I received a Code 2, probably by mistake. So I am getting a set of four RA1 for $580 including installation. Can't beat that. Thanks Toyo. Thanks Talon.

wow. my full-price-in-the-US RA1s cost about $720 + something like $60 for shaving.

Everything usually cost double in Canada. So, when we get a good deal, we have to celebrate.

Seems to me R compound tires in general are cheaper in Canada than in USA

John,
As a BMW Club of Quebec member, you also qualify for the Toyo deal in Canada.

EdgeRacing in Florida has great prices.

EdgeRacing in Florida has great prices.
Yes, Edge indeed has great prices, but on R compounds, not so great compared to Canadian prices- especially when the Toyo discount is taken into consideration. The RA-1s in 225/50/16 at Edge is $192.00. This is slightly more than the Toyo discounted price in Canada. Then you factor in the shipping and installation and you might ask yourself: Where is the saving?

Then you factor in the shipping and installation and you might ask yourself: Where is the saving?shipping + taxes + duty
+ the infamous "brokerage fees" if you get them shipped straight here, or the time & gas to go pick them up Stateside if you don't
Even getting them installed in the US is SUPER expensive in most shops. Some charge as much as $25 per wheel for mounting and balancing on alloy wheels
EdgeRacing prices are day to day prices. While the deal we got from Toyo/Talon is 1) Club Discount plus 2) Clearance discount. I doubt that we'll get the ame prices year after year. Still happy with the opportunity.

Talon's everyday price on the 225/50/16 RA-1 is $235.00. That compares favourably with the USD $192 at Edge where all the other "extras" that we take for granted are tacked onto the final price. Like Eric mentioned... shipping, installation, duties, brokerage fees.

Long distance charges these days is cheap. If Talon can get you the tires you need and at the right price, then that LD cost is a very cheap cost of doing business.

Is this special available in 2009?
I have just been informed (by Toyo) that the 40% discount for Toyo R-Compounds will be maintained for club members in 2009. When ordering, please put BMW Quebec in the "Car Club" field to make sure you get the correct discount rate. Your name will be cross-referenced with the list I have supplied to Toyo.

hmmm.
Is there any possibility they'll eventually offer discounts on non-R-Compound tires? I prefer to run high-end street tires and avoid all the hassle of tire changes

I don't know. The R1R looks interesting too. I just emailed the Toyo rep about it.

Emre,
Please check with John at Talon. However, I suspect the size choices among the remaining stock of RA1s may be quite limited.
