I have just heard from Franck at Mecaglisse. The track is available on the following dates:
-Sunday, September 4th
-Saturday, September 17th
We will need to get enough commitment from interested parties in order to confirm.

I'm in, for either day.
How much?
I prefere if its later - i.e. 17th. but if most of you guys say 4th I'll probably be OK too.
A.
Hi guys.
I believe that the trick with Mecaglisse is to ask them when they have open lapping, and then reserve a group like Emre did a few months ago. Instead of paying $100, we then can aim at $80. Having one group out of two is enough track time. I am afraid that if we reserve a regular day, then Frank is going to be asking full price. He has to understand that it is not the club that is renting the track, but that we are doing a Mecaglisse lapping day.
what about sanair?
Isn't it even cheaper?
bmwqc

I am waiting a further response from Franck on this
bmwqc

Sanair is marginally cheaper to rent, but you have to rent it exclusively for the whole day. As far as I know, they do not have open lapping days for individual cars or small groups of cars where the facilities may be shared with others to bring down the cost per vehicle
bmwqc

I don'y know the price at this point (I am awaiting a reply from Franck), but if we get a small group together, we can probably expect to pay similar to what we paid back in June. ($100 per person plus $10 insurance)
bmwqc

I just got price confirmation from Franck at Mecaglisse. The same 2 dates would be open:
-Sunday, September 4th
-Saturday, September 17th
If we can get a small group together, we can share the track with others (alternating track sessions like we did back in June). The price would be $83.00 / half day per driver, and $110.00 per full day per driver, including insurance.
We will need to get enough commitment from interested parties in order to confirm.

Hi,
I'm one of Mikie's friends. I organized the lapping events at Shannonville throughout the summer for the MINI club. I'm in for the 17th. I've always wanted to try out Mecaglisse, I've heard great things about it, can't wait!

The track will be able to accomodate up to 12 cars at the same time. So it would be safe to say that we will max out at that number of cars. I
will start a list below, on a 1st come 1st served basis. Please enter in your name, car model, daytime tel #. If the list fills up and more people are interested in attending, they would be put on a standby list.

This would be an open lapping event. Cones will be placed at strategic spots, but there will be no flaggers. As along as everyone follows the rules (e.g. for passing), there should be no problem.
do we need any support peoples like flagers... or stuff like that ?
If some of your friends want to practice as flaggers or pit out crew, we will be happy to have them. I would also want to mention that it is a private lapping day and that it is not organized by ther BMW Club. It only happens that the organizer is a member and that attendees will also mostly be club members.
Usual club events have ambulances, flaggers and full insurance coverage. As well as a delightfull lunch...

Wow! The list has already filled up!
For those of you who want to sign up (but missed the 12-car cut), please by all means, do place your name on the list anyway. I did not get a reply from Franck today, but I plan to call him tomorrow and see if we can work out a deal (to accomodate more drivers).
I will keep you posted.
HW
May I suggest that signees perhaps can send a deposit so that Henry doesn't end up with the bill if some registrants bail out at the last minute. Hopefully, the more cars, the lower the fee.

08-29-2005, 11:14 PM
maybe we can break up into 2 run groups, that way we could have 20 cars or more and the cost per driver would drop right down.
I never stay out all day anyway, after 20 minutes or so of hard running the engine and brakes (and the driver too in my case) are ready for a break and some cool down. Especially at Mecaglisse, you NEVER stop turning braking or accelerating ... it gets hard on the neck after a while.
I liked the other event where we shared the day with the supermotard bikers. Cool to drive for 1 session then watch for 1 session
I've been to Mecaglisse 3 times this year, every time we broke up into 2 or more groups and not once did I go home thinking "I would have liked to run more"
bmwqc
08-29-2005, 11:23 PM
This will depend on how many more drivers we can ultimately recruit. If we get a total of 16 people, we can get the entire track (without sharing) for the same $100 per person (plus $10 insurance). But if Franck has already pre-committed the alternate session to another group, then we would have to cap off the # of drivers. In any case, I will find out tomorrow.

I just spoke to Franck on the phone. I mentioned to him that we have 13 people signed up (and possibly more). I asked about the possibility of paying a lower price but he was unwilling to negotiate. The price would be $100.00 per driver plus $10.00 insurance for non-exclusive rental of the track. However, he did say that if our group outnumbers another group (e.g. we have 13 people and the other group has 6), he would split up the run sessions into 3 groups whereby we would have 2 runs groups and the other people have 1 so that everyone will have about the same amount of track time at the end of the day.
As of this moment, we still have the option to rent the track exclusively, (they have not committed it to anyone else yet), in which case, Sept 17th, being on a weekend day, the price would be $1790.00 (taxes included) plus $10.00 insurance per driver. To make this worthwhile, that means that we would have to recruit a few more drivers in order to bring down the cost. We still could rent the track exclusively with 13 drivers, just the cost per person would be $138.00 plus $10.00. We should aim for a total of 20 drivers and obviously with those numbers, we can bring down the cost to under $100 per.
I would like some feedback from everyone on this and so we make a democratic decision and get back to Franck. He would like to have an answer in a couple days' time if we want to rent it exclusively. Upon confirmation, he would require a 30% deposit. At that point, and based on the number of people committed, I would ask for everyone to chip in their share of the deposit.
Regarding lunch at trackside, it will be made available. They take orders from everyone in the morning and the stuff is made to order and ready at lunch hour.

if we can get enough people I would prefer to rent the track exclusively, then break up into 2 run groups for ~25 minute stints.
if we don't have the track exclusively some yahoo's could show up and spoil the fun by being super slow and not letting anyone by, or by driving stupidly and putting others in danger. I believe everyone here has track experience with the club and is a safe, courteous driver (well, maybe not Percy ... he's a real yahoo :D)
If we are 18 participants, it comes out to the same price as an open day ($100 each + insurance). If we can get 25 people the cost would be $72 each + insurance, a great bargain IMO and we will all have PLENTY of run time.
going up to 3 groups gives 33% less run time, that's sort of boring being out for 1 and in for 2.

I am also for getting the track exclusively. We would have better control this way (and certainly more track time).
It would be nice to get a few more people to sign on. However, since this is not a club-sponsored event, I cannot use the club web-site to make any general announcements to promote this. We will have to rely on word of mouth.

I would prefer the exclusivity with 13 cars and pay a bit more. I've organized events at shannonville and having just 2 or 3 yahoos out of 20 cars ruins the fun of the day. If everyone on this list knows each other then we won't have to babysit and have a more relaxed day. I have never lapped with you guys (just Mikie), but from what Mikie tells me you all are a great group. I'm ready to meet to give my deposit or full payment whichever you prefer. I believe there is a BMW Club meeting next Tues, I was thinking of attending if some of you will be there. Also i can bring cash then too.

I'd be glad to pay a little more and have exclusive access.
~andré~
already with 14 participants it would be 128$ each +10$ insurance we have the track all for us.
is exclusivity worth 28$?
imho, yes
13- 138$
14- 128$
15- 120$
16- 112$
17- 106$
18- 100$

There is not big difference for the price from 100$ to 128$ but if we can get 17 drivers.... or.. 14 drivers with a couples of peoples that want to be '' co-pilot'' to see what it's like... that could pay a little part of the event...not much but if we get 5 to 10 '' co-riders '' at 10 to 20 $ each...
By the way... can we bring some one with us, in the car fo a couples of laps ?? Or insurance don't let us do that for that event ??
P.S : That's just an Idea ...
Everyone who pays $10 for insurance is allowed to access the track, wether as a passenger or a driver (if the remaining $100 is paid). The idea is to get enough registrants to pay the $2000 track and insurance bill.

Well guy !!! bring you mother !!! LOL !!!
Sérieusement ! c'est bon a savoir... c'est bien ce que je croyais mais j'aime toujours confirmer.... Je suis comme ca...

I would like some feedback from everyone on this and so we make a democratic decision and get back to Franck.Henry,
Considering how many people have already expressed interest, it sounds like asking for exclusive use would be reasonable. I would rather pay $20-30 more to have exclusive use. We could break people up into two groups, experienced and less experienced. That way, some of the more experienced people can act as informal instructors if the need arises.
I don't know if Hemry asked Karin... that could be another driver...Unfortunately, Karin has to work on the 17th. And, as others have pointed out, her car is still out of commission at the moment.

I have not heard from everyone yet, but of the 1/2 dozen or so who have given their feedback, every one of them prefer to have exclusive rental of the track and pay the extra (if need be).
So based on the response thus far, do I get the go-ahead from everyone
to confirm the reservation with Franck? If we rent the track on an exclusive basis, upon confirmation, I would have to foward a 30% deposit. At the present. there are 14 drivers, that would work out to about $40.00 per person. As the deposit to the track is non-refundable, your individual deposits would likewise be non-refundable. I would have to have this deposit on hand beforehand.

Regarding the deposit, I realize that some of you are living outside of the Montreal area. As I need to confirm with Franck by tomorrow, it is too short a notice to get everyone's deposit by then. Being such the case, if everyone on the list agrees to vouch for each other (i.e. to share the financial responsibility equally regardless of the final number of paying participants), I could take care of the deposit at my end, BUT I will need to have all 14 people who signed up on the list to give me the OK on this.

I received the reservation form today. I will submit it via fax tomorrow. The track rental fee of $1790.00 does not include the chalet, which is optional at an additional $250.00
Since we will only be lapping and will not be holding classes, etc indoors, I don't suppose we will need to rent it (we would still have access to portable toilets at trackside).

As far as I know, they do have helmets there available for rental, I don't know how much - I will ask for you.
If you are planning on doing more track events in the future, I strongly recommend you look into purchasing a new unit (Snell 2000 now or Snell 2005 coming out soon). A new helmet offers better fit, more comfort - ultimately more safety, not to mention the sanitary factor.

Salut Henry
Hi Henry
I am not the organizer of this day, and I know that club
BMW Quebec did not organize it, but for a correct operation of the day
it would be wise to raise the following questions:
1 -Do we have people who want to be flagers? so yes that it expresses
it before day
2 Do we do a mechanical inspection between us before
the day? so yes which want to give the responsability
3 Of them in order to avoid dangerous operations and a bad interpretation of the
codes of going beyond a meeting before going on the track would be
welcome. If we make this meeting which will animate it? I am not there
to find jobs with people but I can be useful that will please to me to
place my competences at the disposal of group (N.B: I am not an
instructor or instructor chief but I am a trainer consequently if
there is nobody to animate I can N be occupied) :)
Hi, Percy.
You make some good points. Let me try to answer your questions one-by-one:
1- Y a-t-il des personnes qui veulent être signaleurs? si oui qu'elle l'exprime avant la journée
1 -Do we have people who want to be flagers? so yes that it expresses it before dayThis event will officially be run by Mecaglisse management. That means Franck will be manning the pit exit and acting as the only flagger. This event should be open to people who already have some track experience...so the lack of flaggers should not be a major concern. Everyone will just have to be extra careful and courteous.
2- Ferons nous une peite inspection mécanique entre nous avant la journée? si oui qui veux s'en charger
2 Do we do a mechanical inspection between us before the day? so yes which want to give the responsability No, you will NOT be required to have a formal technical inspection. Similarly, there will be no tech inspection at the track. As Henry reminds us, this is not a BMW Club event, so the normal rules and standards do not apply.
However, it would be a very good idea to thoroughly inspect the car prior to the event. You can use the BMW Club tech inspection sheet to see what items need attention. If you are not comfortable inspecting those items on your own, then it would be a good idea to bring the car to a competent mechanic to do the job for you.
3 Of them in order to avoid dangerous operations and a bad interpretation of the codes of going beyond a meeting before going on the track would be
welcome. If we make this meeting which will animate it? I am not there
to find jobs with people but I can be useful that will please to me to
place my competences at the disposal of groupGenerally, Franck has a short driver's meeting in the morning where he covers the ground rules. I think it would be appropriate for one of us (maybe Henry, Lee, or myself) to also say a few words to make sure everyone has the same understanding of the rules and procedures.

Hi everyone,
For next Saturday Sept 17th, some of us will be meeting at the Tim Horton on Decarie (south of Pare) at 7:30am. We will leave there for Mecaglisse at 8am sharp. Please make sure you fill up next door (there is a PetroCan at the corner) and bring along some extra gas in a can, you will need it.
It would be advisable to give your car a thorough mechanical checkup prior and check your tires/pressure and brake pads/fluids.
Lunch can be ordered at the track but I would recommend bringing along some bottled water / light snacks also.
For the track fees, please be reminded that the track will accept ONLY CASH !!

Hi Percy,
Yes, your friend is welcome to check out the track as observer. However, if he chooses to wait until Sept 17th to make a decision to participate on the track, he could join in providing we have a total of less than 20 drivers that day. I wish to max out at 20 drivers in total so we could have 2 equal run groups of 10 cars each.

I was at mecaglisse last weekend with some friends
Franck set them up the "fast" track, it's a lot straighter and faster, but somewhat boring.
Maybe we can give it a try, see if it would be suitable for future club events. It takes 2 minutes to change configurations, just put a couple of cones in a different spot. However that course is run in the opposite direction we usually do
Perhaps in the morning we can make one configuration, and change in the afternoon for the regular track. What I have in mind starts from the "long" straight, fast right hander, then the next right hander becomes a complete fast sweeper that dives down, instead of doing only 25% of a cercle and going to the "tree hairpin". That would be a great corner for tail-happy cars. A nice exercice in drift.
A question for Henry, the organizer. If some people we do not know or have not been refered by anyone we know, want to join in, do we have to accept them wether we are under 20 cars or not? Is there a safety aspect?

I thought this was set up using a format similar to Bob's events, i.e. you have to be invited or referred in. Isn't that why we reserved the track for exclusive use?
I don't mind participants we don't know, but I suggest "unknowns" have to do a short stint with Lee (or other instructor) as passenger and be signed off before being in for full day. That way we can be reasonably sure they are safe and courteous.

Lee,
Participants in this event should all have previous track experience. Whether we have 20 drivers or not, in the interest of running a safe event, I would advise against accepting a newbie (or someone who is not known to anyone else in the driving group).

My take on this is that it is a private party, where people can attend only on invitation. Passer-bys cannot just enter the house and participate. Also, it was mentionned that only pre-registered drivers could attend, which rules out such a situation. It seems we all think alike. But as it is Henry's private lapping day, he is the one to decide.
I don't mind extra people if those people are known by one of the participants and they are known and guaranteed to be responsible and with a minimum of experience.
Total strangers and totale newbies are a bit of a risk
private party :)
BTW,what about food? Any plans? I'd chip in for barbecue

We meet at Timmy's at 7:30AM. Get your coffee/donuts and fill up your gas tanks (PetroCan next door). We have to leave Timmy's at 8:00 AM sharp.
Depending on traffic, it takes up to 1 1/2 hours to get to Mecaglisse. We should arrive there before 9:30AM
I will collect the balance of the track fees from everyone (the track management will accept CASH only!!), while the participants can start preparing their cars. The track opens at 10AM
Just before the first track sessions, we will hold a drivers' meeting to explain the ground rules and sort out the run sessions. The track owner will also want to say a few things too.

That was quite a day. Thanks for coming despite the wet conditions. But wet is good. I went with Eric, Emre and Alex to sa restaurant in Joliette and we treated ourself to a thick juicy steak, to get some proteine.

Thanks Henry, Lee and everyone. Big wet fun all day. Route 347 on the way home was fun too :D
So, you didn't have too much trouble finding your way home from Joliette?
Too bad we decided so late for dinner, could have got a bigger group together

San Antonio in Joliette is supposed to have pretty good steaks - some say on par with Moishe's (but at a better price).

San Antonio in JolietteI believe San Antonio is in Repentigny. I've been there years ago, it wasn't really special.
The place in Joliette is called La Chaumière. Their steaks are awesome.
I've never been to Moishe's and I'm not a world expert but IMO they're better than the Keg.
Hey, let's organize a BMWclub steak dinner next time!

Special Thanks to Henry, Lee, Hemre and again Lee that convinced me to come even with rain !! lol
You where right, Right=fun anyway !
I would also to thanks all the drivers for beeing so gentleman on the track and off track. I think we created 2 new track addicts with my friends !! LOL
Bad I had to go home right away... I will see you in Zanetti at the next meet !!
The usual belief is that a driver learns to go fast on a track. The reality is that drivers are taught to learn driving techniques and apply them almost similarly whatever the weather. Driving in the rain is exactly like driving in the wet. The only difference is that friction level is different. The same way friction is different wether you drive at 50 km/h or 200 km/h. To sum it up, driving in the rain at 50 km/h is just like doing it in the dry at 200 km/h, except that if "anything" happens, it will happen at a much slower speed and in a much safer way. Let's say that those who drove at Mécaglisse on Saturday, experienced the same feelings as if they were driving on a very high speed track in the dry.
Last year, we had a weekend at Tremblant. Two days in the rain. So, we got used to a certain level of friction and adapted to it. Then, the last session got dried up. We drove like hell, at the same level of friction, only to realize that our speeds were way higher than the usual dry conditions. We became much better drivers, thanks to the rain.

I think rain "leveled" the field for everyone. It was not a matter of power anymore, everything was smoothness and patience. I had a blast trying to follow Emre on the EVO. Drifting is a lot of fun too... :D
The only thing I regret is not taking you or emre with me for some driving tips at the end of the day... time flew by so fast and the day was over and before I could realize everyone was packing already...
Maybe we could have another one of these events before winter?
I'd rather go to Sanair though next time... If we go to mecaglisse again I need to change my whole intake system. I'm already sucking up too much dirt on asphalt... mecaglisse is a bit "too much" for my setup.
BTW, LOT'S of thanks for being there.

Big thanks to Henry for setting this up. It was a nice day, my first on-track experience in the rain so it was great. I've got a lot of video footage from my in-car camera that i'll upload on my server tomorrow. It was nice to meet all of you and a pleasure to drive with you.
I'd be up for another event if there is time.

The only thing I regret is not taking you or emre with me for some driving tips at the end of the day... time flew by so fast and the day was over and before I could realize everyone was packing already...You seemed to be doing fine on your own
The whole trick with those big drifts is to start unwinding a little sooner than you think you need to. Dialing in the correct amount of opposite lock gets easy after a while (especially if you make sure to keep looking ahead). The real trick is to unwind smoothly. If you wait until the car gets totally settled before starting to unwind, then it will want to snap back in the opposite direction.
It's the same with understeer at high speed. That's what we were working on with Simon and Antoine: as soon as the car starts to stabilize, start gently unwinding. That keeps your nose from darting in and unbalancing the car.
Emre
I can't wait for pictures of me in action. I was really mugging it for the cameras. ;)
I am impatient as well...
You seemed to be doing fine on your own
Thanks :D... but I think I can still learn a thing or two from you two. I wasn't really thinking about what I was doing, just tryied to look where I was going and that's basically it. BTW, I think I got my most "sideway" slide right in front of you, lol! I was like at 90 degree with the track.
Only problem with mecaglisse is that in some points the track are REALLY narrow, not much space for a car sideway... Like the spot where you had intimate relation with hay bale :), that corner would be totally insane if it was wider.

Sand is EVERYWHERE!
This being said, I had a great time.
A big thank you to Henry for organizing and to Lee and Emre for the helpful advice.
Every single time I go out I make it a point to pick something up; on top of which, both Lee and Emre gave me some things to think about. Thanks guys.
I think I calculated that I got not far from 3 hours of actual track time! Good thing it was in the wet otherwise my brakes would have been toast.
Note to self: 4 year old snow tires = no grip.
A friendly reminder that as rubber ages, it gets harder.
Still had fun though, just drove up to the level of the tires (and sometimes a little more) :P
My dry tires just did not have enough tread for the rain. I've only had the car a year and there have been so many things to get sorted on the car. Proper rain tires are in the works; the snows came with the car when I bought it and I was thinking of using them this winter on my daily driver...
Seeing how hard they now are, methinks I'll keep them to... uhhh... store the car over the winter and get some proper winter tires.
Sorry I couldn't make it for Steaks, the little one's at home we're beckoning; hopefully next time.

Thanks guys for the fun time and all the advice!! It was my first time in the rain and was very educational. Time flew buy pretty fast. I had the impression that we had the track till 17:00 and was surprised to discover that I was alone and the owners were fixing the hay.
Yep sand gets everywhere especially since it was wet - My driverside lock got harder to operate - have to whip out the wd40 see if it helps
Stake place was good or i was hungry :)... found my way from jouliette with no problems (got lost entering montreal though) but that stretch from mecaglisse to Eric's house was awesome- felt like the old Need For Speed games
cheers
A.
PS and thanks to all who got me out of the sand - I guess my LSD is getting tired
those who are wondering how to get rid of sand fast... I found the best way is using compressed air on DRY car to blow it away. Make sure you do it outside though, not in garage :) the rest of the excess sand will go away on it's own slowly... I had a quick 5sec sandbox extravaganza trip... and the underbody was litteraly pure packed sand. I must have had 50lbs worth of sand under there.... all gone, it's pretty clean now
that said... some of the sand we accumulated will remain FOREVER! LOL... until the car is decomposed

Make sure you use wear a good filter mask & eye protection when using the compressed air. You will probably clean out the sand more thorougly by using a water hose for the surface areas along with a pressure washer in the hard to get places. At least the water will weigh down the loosened sand and prevent the particles from being blown all over the place.

believe it or not, I have 5hp gasoline powered pressure washer, and it doesn't really move the sand anywhere! Didn't have much time to clean the car when we got back, and once it dryied, the sand "cemented" itself.
I found air to be more effective than water. In the "hard to get spots"... than I use pressure washer. Maybe mine is a particular case because I litterally scooped up tons of sand...

I just call a call from Sanair management. On the Tri-oval track, all the weekend dates for the month of October are open (with the exception of Oct 7,8,9th). The cost of renting the track is $1500.00 plus Gst + Qst= total $1725.37 This does not include insurance and frankly, I don't believe we can purchase liability insurance a la Mecaglisse at $10.00 per head. Perhaps Lee can provide some insight re/this as he has organized events there in the past.
As for Mecaglisse, the only weekend date available between now and end of October is Sunday Oct 9th. Cost for open lapping would be $100 plus $10 insurance per person.

1725$ is a decent price, if we are the same group as Mecaglisse(16 drivers), it comes down at 108$ + insurance per person for exclusive track use. Insurance shouldn't be a crazy amount.
Been wanting to track at sanair since that spring fling...
Sanair doesn't offer any form of insurance. It is possible to rent that track without paying any tax. It is also possible to spend a whole day lapping for $100. That means other drivers can also join in. It is perfect for a small group.

Shannonville = track in miserable condition, similar to St-Eustache and Sanair.
It's one of those tracks where the owners invest NOTHING in maintenance, they just want to collect your money. Lots of VERY dangerous obstacles in the run-off to break your car if you go off. Turtles are about 1 foot high ... I slid in some coolant from a Porsche that blew up and went over the turtles; it dented my header and oil pan.
It's also about a 4 hour drive form Montreal area.
Trois-Rivières is a circuit composed of city streets temporarily closed off to traffic for the race week-end. It's not a track per se.
what about st-eustache? Is it really that bad?
or is it just sanair and mecaglisse that are somewhat worth anything around here?

The infield section is kind of bumpy and the entire track surface is very abrasive, very tough on the tires. The track surface does not seem very well maintained as there's lots of rubber debris (from tires) all over the place and this stuff gets picked up by your tires.
I have never been to St-Eustache, what's that place like? Is it expensive to rent?

Don't forget Tremblant. The Audi club go to this trac the week-end of 1 and 2 oct. I don't kwow if this event is full. I'm shure Alan Bellavance have a information about that... this guy and is wife organise the event...
I have just emailed Alan, asking him if there was room left for that event. It is a weekend event, so, it is easier for most of us to register. As a weekend event, it is not cheap, but well worth it. I also enquired if they needed instructors.

And what about PMG in Blainville... I've never been there and I don't even know if it is possible to rent the track for lapping purposes
I know they do it for Solo events (I or II, not sure about that though)
The unavailability of liability insurance may discourage some people. It's only an issue for the organizers. The liability insurance doesn't cover the drivers anyway. It protects the organizers from: (a) getting sued by a participant or spectator; and, (b) being held liable for damage to the facility.
Without insurance, it's very risky to organize an event. You really stick your neck out...so you need to make sure you know all the drivers and feel confident that no one will turn around and try to screw you over.

Don't forget Tremblant. The Audi club go to this trac the week-end of 1 and 2 oct.It seems to be sold out : http://www.neqclub.org/index.php?option=com_events&task=view_detail&agid=6&year=2005&month=10&day=01&Itemid=46
FYI : the cost for the Quattro club event was $460 for the event plus $67 for Quattro club membership = $527
I've heard PMG track owners are insane so it's verrrrry expensive, I believe several thousand $ for one day plus you need to put up a deposit of $5000 in case of damage to the track surface
what about st-eustache? Is it really that bad?Personally, I think Ste-Eustache sucks big time. There's really only a single corner that you need to think about (the carrousel). And after a couple of laps, you've got it down. Then...nothing. It's REALLY boring.
On top of that, it's incredibly dangerous. There's no runoff in most corners. There are walls everywhere. There are serious obstacles (light poles!) right in the middle of corners. There's a HUGE drop-off all around the carrousel. So, if you screw up, you're literally on your roof.
Honestly, the place sucks.
BTW, I thought sanair looked fine this springI like it. The smaller road circuit is fun and simple. The tri-oval lets you practice high-speed cornering. And you can really throw your car around the infield "dorifuto" style.
And what about PMG in Blainville... I've never been there and I don't even know if it is possible to rent the track for lapping purposesBlainville was very nice when it was run by the government. You'd basically show up, "pay" (a.k.a., "bribe") the groundskeeper, and the whole place was yours for the day. You'd get the skidpad, high-speed loop (2 miles!), and the enormous "asphalt lake" for maybe 700 bucks.
Now that PMG Tech runs the place, they charge an arm and a leg. First of all, you have to rent all three areas separately...and they cost around $2500-3000 each. On top of that, they have a "strictly enforced" speedlimit of 140 km/hr on the high speed loop (so, what's the point?). Plus, everything, including cones (which you need a million of), is an add-on. So, it ends up costing you much more to rent than a track.
If you're into Solo II stuff, then the asphalt lake is probably the ultimate venue. Most of us would rather go to a track if we're spending that kind of money.
Emre

Thanks for the info. BTW I believe that they recognize the BMW Club membership. This reciprocity means Audi club members can also participate to BMW Club events. Usually, events are sold out because of a lack of instructors. The more instructors, the better for them (less burden) and for the organizers (more students) = less financial risks.

I just got some pre-event e-mails from Alan. There are 165 people receiving that mail. Seems like lots of instructors from the names I read. All the usual suspects are there.
Audi Club events do seem to require membership. Some BMWCCA chapters in the states do the same now for insurance purposes. I know that Buckeye chapter events at Mid-Ohio require membership in the chapter.
I'll be there for all 3 days. I hope the weather will cooperate.

I think that it is possible to obtain the same type of arrangement
which I obtained with club NER PCA this summer. Thus because of a problem
in my schedule it was impossible for me to be there for 2 days (at 280 $ U.S for the two days). However the organisation accept my inscription for one day. They cost me 140 $ US (without having has to pay
membership with the PORSCHE club...) It was a week day ... it was
a good deal.

It is the general policy of NER PCA to accept non-PCA members. There is no formal arrangement between the clubs. Same for us accepting PCA members.

Shannonville = track in miserable condition, similar to St-Eustache and Sanair.
I don't know if I'd go that far. It's definitely smoother than St-Eustache. There are less obstacles to hit (no light poles, cement walls etc.) You just need to watch out for the turtles and straighten your wheels if you go off.
It's also a little more technical and offers drivers a choice of lines in a few corners.
I've done a few one day events with Raven Motorsports there and would go back. Good fun and only 3 hours away if you drive a reasonably quickly (Just on the other side of Kingston).

I was checking the autocourse website and found these tracks I never heard...
St-Eugène, Québec
http://www.autocourse.ca/circuits/steugene.html
Ste-Croix, Québec
http://www.autocourse.ca/index.php?file=circuit.html
Ste-Croix is similar to St-Eustache
Here are some pictures of the Dirfting event we had there
http://gallery.mox.ca/v/Automobile/2005/Drift/2005-08-21+-+Round+3/
St-Croix has very bad pavement. Run-offs are non-existant and include a huge swamp: miss a corner, meet the frogs. The track is build at the bottom of a fall, just by the St-Lawrence river.
