View Full Version : hypothetical nurburgring get-together

There was a discussion of this in "the wrong thread".
spending a week at the nurburgring is probably not more expensive than 2 weekend events, even including airfare. (kolia's idea)
my airfare sample was $728 from boston to cologne, round trip. Renting a small bmw is probably not more than the wear and tear on your car. And hey, you are in germany.
It depends on the event, but I think we usually spend about $2/minute to be on track, often more. 1 Nurburgring lap will well take over 10min for a newbie in a rental car and it costs about $20 (I remember hearing once). Track time costs are about the same.
The only really significant extra expense might be real german beer on tap.
nano mentioned that he is already nearby somewhere in yurp.
emre's excuse for not attending sebring this year was an impending tour of european racetracks, to include SPA and Nurburgring. Inexplicably, emre preferred shipping his ricer to renting a nice bmw. Perhaps he has come to his senses.
Is anyone else conceptually interested?
I'll throw out august as an example month.

I would be very interested...next summer lol. I'm finishing my DEP and Canadian Tire doesnt pay me nearly enough for that kind of trip. Great idea though. If I remember correctly, it's something like 10 euro for a lap on the nurburgring. Theres also the BMW Taxi tour in an E60 M5...I think that followed by a few laps would be awesome.

In Germany beer is not an extra expense. It is dirt cheap there. Any government that decides to tax beer it removed in a swift revolt.
With that financial hurdle out of the way I think I could entertain a 'ring adventure dream.

Most rental places will rent 320i's or 320d Also most rentals are manuals.
Personally I'd rent this

Meh it won't be on top gear so it won't really matter

Is there a snowmobile lap time?
Besides I can take a tour of the VW plant and visit the Mercedes museum.. the perfect way to spend time in germany

Wow, this thing is catching on !
August would be fine I guess. I'm going to BAB9 though...
First thing to do is to check the open lapping weekends availlable.
Ah, a PS or XBox with a game with the Nurburgring in it is a plus for training. 'Cuz driving scared of the next corner because you have no idea where you are isn't fun...
Will Nano get the Integrale out ?
I'm very conceptually interested (search my previous ring topics... I even made a giant map).
Imho, best time would be end of august up to end of September.
I'm very close to the ring in north-american distances... In european distances I'm 3 countries away on the other side of europe. But an airplane ticket from Milan to Frankfurt in low-fare season is around 100$ all included :D.
Will Nano get the Integrale out ?
No, unfortunately I did the mistake of getting a TOO prestine specimen, now I cherish it too much to use as anything else than a giant paper weight... though I'm actually looking for a second one to be more of a daily/track beater.

I would be interested too, but ùI'm in the same situation as SilverBlades as for next summer... I don't think I would be able to make it this year.
But it's one of my dreams to visit this track and a few other spots in Europe one day...

I am currently researching a pilgrimage for end of April early May.
If all goes well, I will share when we return. In the mean time, if anybody has any great info to share, I would appreciate it.

VERY tempting. Please keep this prospect going. August is also a very good time for me, especially if we can have the whole thing organized well in advance.
