Hello,
If you are going to post the pictures on your website, it would be nice to blank out all the licence plates numbers of the cars on the track.
Tks

great pictures, thanks!
those who don't want pictures of your license plate to show up in pictures, either remove it or cover it up with duct tape when you get to the track!

I don't have a problem with people snapping shots of me and/or my car on the track. But when these pictures are posted on a website site that is available to the general public, then I do have an issue. The picture taker should use some common sense to blank out the plate numbers.
I have posted numerous pictures on this site of cars at driving events. It was tedious and time consuming, but the plate numbers have been whited out on all those pictures.

I understand the consideration about people not wanting their license plate being identifiable, but I think it is already a nice gesture to spend the time posting pictures from track events. I guess that those who donot want to be identified should blank their license plate at the event. Personnaly, I don't have problem with others reading my plate. I do not see what can happen. Obviously if a car is rented, then perhaps it would be safer to blank out the plate and company decals. I have seen rented a Mazda 3 with duct tape on several loations to hide the identity of that car.
I told some peoples that if they want their license plates hidden to remove them or put duck tape on it
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to talk to everyone before they gets on the track
Next time, I'll try to make sure everyone do something about that..
Processing the 2400++ photos that we did this saturday will take me around 10 hours.. I already spent 3 hours on that and I'm not half done.. having to blur the plates on every pictures would take me WAY over 20hours
Take note that once sorted and resized the visible licenses plates will be hidden only for the pics we will post on the forum.
Just to enlighten me a bit. What is the benefit of not seiing one's license plates?

Digital content on the web has a tendency of spreading like wildfire and can remain in circulation for years. The danger, is that your wife, mother in law, dealer, manufacturer, insurer, etc...finds out about stuff you didn't want them to know about...
it's also a question of net ethics.

It is interesting that the subject of insurance is raised (I give up on the mother-in-law subject). Driver schools are not competitive (no timing, no winner or loser) and might as well happen in a parking lot where conditions are predictable. Your insurance is not void when driving in a parking lot nor should it be on a road course. There is no speed limits, so you won't get a speed ticket either. Insurance companies have had a huge loss during the September 11th destruction of the twin towers and are now trying to recover their loss and are very sensitive to risks. We know of a few track incidents in past years when owners had their insurance work for them. But now, the insurance companies will find every which way to avoid paying. Simply ask your broker what is your protection at such an event. We are recognized by Industry Canada as an education/training service too.If your insurance says you are nnot covered, this is probably what they will answer if you have a claim in a yeqar or two. If the say you are covered, have them put it in writing and keep it in a safe place.
There is nothing wrong with driving a car at 7K RPM if the motor is built for it. It is not dangerous to brake hard repetitively if the car is built for that, and you won't be in a competitive environment. So, no reason to be said that the warranty is void. The same way, some car dealers will say that a car's warranty is void when say, you change you wipers for aftermarket wipers, or rotors for non-factory parts. It is always an excuse not to pay. When buying a new car, it is always good to ask your dealer what happens when using the car for driver education events. Better be safe than sorry. It is always better to be upfront and not hiding.
On the topic of insurance, one of the reason for the events to charge you $160 is that it includes an expensive liability insurance that protects you and the other drivers and track workers. Did I also mention that the club is a non-profit organization and that no profit is made. If there is a surplus, then it is put in the bank to compensate a future loss. Instructors are not paid either. In short, only the tracks make money. Funny. We work hard to make events posssible and only tracks make a profit (on top of drivers profiting from newly learned skills).
I understand perfectly. Your points are well founded, it is argueable that hidding the plates makes sense. What is not argueable though, is the principle of privacy. If some people feel uneasy and do not want to have their plates shown, it has to be respected. personally I don't care, but I did appreciate when I was warned about covering my license plate.
It's no big deal. I think a small dissclaimer in the future on preparation papers would be enough to make everyone happy about this issue. Something like. "we remind you that pictures will be taken at the event... blablabla... if you do not want your license plate to appear we advise you... blablabla".

finally was able to see my car on the track - I was hoping it does not lean so much :)
about licence plates and ethics - if you dont want to have your plate spread all over the net -for wahtever reason - cover it up. I dont know if you can hold someone responsible when he/she takes a picture of your car in a parking lot and uses it for promotional material. I think same applies at the track.
so yes - next time we should wanrn people thats all..

That is so funny. He, he. BTW I wish Andrei would drive a e30 and we could see what happens next. No power, no brake, no fancy suspension. Grab your cameras and wait.
That is so funny. He, he.Yeah, that's why I put those pics up in the gallery. I figure everyone might as well get a good laugh out of it. Besides, it shows how safe Mecaglisse really is.

Hehe.. pauvre Emre :)
For the record, I've put the pictures given to me at the following:
http://www.kernel-panic.net/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=Mecaglisse-20050702
(I did ask Benoit's permission to publish the originals..). If you click on the thumbnails, you get a 800x??? version, and if you click _again_, you get the original.
I also have pictures of Sanair and Mosport.. I have to blank the plates and then add them to my gallery. I'll try to do that tomorrow..
antoine
EDIT: I've also added 8 or 9 more pictures which I took with my camera. They're at the end in the last 2 pages.. (We have a very happy Alex and a track pitoune leaning on a hood...:))
