Saying this is addictive is an understatement... even the ride back on highway I was following lines and looking for apexes, lol. And even now, while I am dead tired, I can't lay down as I keep racing the track in my head :D.
couldn't be happier ! :D
We're glad you came! It really was a terrific day. We got really lucky with the weather.

Just wait till you get to Tremblant. Mecaglisse is an appetiser so that you are not completely overwhelmed at Tremblant.

Can't wait for tremblant. Mecaglisse was fun! But I certainly look forward to be able to fully unleash more than 2nd gear :D. (the part I enjoyed the most was the last haripin trough kink/chiacane and front stretch up to first hairpin.... also the huge banked downhill turn in 2nd gear was nice)
BTW, will there be cones in tremblant to indicate apex and out?
Next year I will program more ahead and try to do a lot more schools. Once every couple of months is not enough. I hope something can be done about calabogie if it doesn't get paved... an alternative track.
Hi Nano. Mécaglisse is a very different track from what we use to have. Hence the lack of track-in and track-out cones. Only apex cones. The difference is that at most tracks we do not ask the drivers to slide their car. But in tracks with tight hairpins, it is almost a requirement when wanting to be fast. And the fastest you drive, the earlier you may have to enter the corner to anticipate it when sliding.
Not having track-in and out cones requires more judgement from the driver. It requires him/her to feel the car a bit more. Driving from cone to cone is not necessarely the best way to drive. It helps a bit though.
Bimmers Across the Border 7 will have all the usual cones.
BTW we are already trying to find an extra venue as Calabogie might not happen. Will it be Sanair, or perhaps Mécaglissse? We do not know yet, but we found that less expensive one-day events are a sure hit. We ended up being 40 drivers at SpringFling, which was not exactly a driver school, but rather an Advanced Skills Day for soloed drivers. Expect the usual $160/$180 per day format. Some club members also organize their own private lapping days, but usualyl only with other advanced drivers as there is no instruction, and they would not want "incidents" to happen. And foremost, those private events are not related to the BMW Club and are handled on a private level.

Being a noob, the cones gave me good confidence and gave me an idea of the line to follow. At the end of the day I think it started becoming more natural and I wasn't really paying much attention to them anymore. My instructor was correcting me a lot less too toward the end, the final laps he was virtually silent... either I had improved, he was bored to hell... or I was a hopeless case and he just gave up :D
For calabogie, this is just an assumption, but I assume that other clubs / chapters who where planning on calabogie are now left with a hole for that period. Maybe it is possible to organize something "bigger" in conjunction with other clubs? Just a thought, don't know how much time it takes to organize major HPDE track days... but I am sure it is a LOT, maybe it's impossible. In anycase, even a school like mecaglisse would be extremely nice (I am kind of scared thinking what that place would look like under heavy rain though...)

Nano lol i feel the sameway you do. i think it was the way are isntructor (greg) instructed us.
i just want to say thanks to organizers of this event ., great job . is there anyway of having same instuctors for next driving event ???
thanx
mikie
Hi Mikie. It is a very usual request to have the same instructor. Nonetheless, we do not always have the same instructors at ouur events. When you register to another event, you can ask for Greeg and he will possibly be assigned to you.
BTW Instructors will not talk endlessly while you drive. You neeed to concentrate too. He will cher you up when you do a corner right, or will mention that the line was wrong if it is the case. Then, much of the talking will be done after the session.

Looks like you guys had a blast! :)
Hey, I’ve heard that a certain Z had troubles keeping up with a certain silver Civic hatchback… Is that true Nano? :p
No pictures online yet? Videos? How did your tires do guys? Mecaglisse is pretty merciless on the fronts if you let the car go into under steer.
I can’t wait for Tremblant! New exhaust is installed, GPS Datalogger should be here soon. Have to order new rear tires also…

Greg was great. Laid back and left you plenty of room to try your things and experiment, but always very alert and attentive with the right advice when you fucked up and cheers when you did ok. I was also amazed at his reflexes, a couple of time he corrected me fraction of instants before getting into trouble... I didn't ask him, but I wonder how long he has been an instructor... but he is an FWD master(and AUDI club instructor :p)... I wouldn't mind a RWD master next time around :D
