So, what do you guys think of the propsed changes to F1? The FIA is trying to reduce the teams' reliance on aero downforce for cornering grip. Instead, they are proposing to allow more mechanical grip via wider track, bigger wheels and tires, and the re-introduction of dry slicks. The idea is to allow cars to follow closer in the corners to make passing easier and less dangerous.

At the same time, they're considering a spec engine management package that all teams would use, a spec tire (a la NASCRAP), and the re-introduction of a mechanical shift linkage and clutch. Wow.

Opinions?

Now should just say push instead of understeer and loose instead of oversteer.

I like the foot clutch idea. Makes all the SMG weenies shut up.

F1 is and should be the pinnacle of racing. If Mad Max gets his way, F1 will soon be eclipsed in performance by the open wheel cars in the other series. They should axe him and that short little white haired guy who runs F1 and return the glory to the series.

Some of it is good
Some of it doesn't make sense

I don't like the whole FIA manufactured/approved thing one bit. It eliminates the creative factor on too many points. And if the rules are the same for everyone, all the car will be equal and it will be just as hard to overtake as it is now. (wider cars, with the same drag with less powerfull engines = overtake my ass)...

JGTC (and a few other championships) use ballast penalties for 1st 2nd and 3rd place. That would spice things up.
