I'm in the process of buying a 318is 1991. The seller told me the profile gasket has been changed but the mechanic at Sambec told me it hadn't...anyway I'll get that cleared up with the seller but I had some conserns. If it has been changed, are there any changes it will break? I've read I need to change the coolant frequently, any other things I should do/know about the M42?
Thanks.

The new profile gaskets are made of a different rubber, so, according to BMW, they should solve the problem.
I changed mine in 1999 and it still holds very well. Coolant should be changed every 2 years. Buy the BMW coolant, it's only a couple of $$ more and you will have peace of mind.
