Here (http://www.ukintpress.com/engineoftheyear/categories04.html)
New M5/M6 engine wins engine of the year.
S54 from the M3 wins its category 5 years in a row.
Also their 3 liter turbo diesel wins its category.
Yeah, the M5/M6 engine is pretty crazy, definitely agree with it being engine of the year. From every angle this engine is superlative.
funny how the "new" 2.2 liter S2000 engine placed 6th in it's category (granted it's a close margin)
while the "old" 2.0 liter engine placed 2nd in it's category
they should puit all the hybrid monstrosities in separate categories though.
Not many american engines :p

The 2.0 engine was more of an engineering achievement. Spinning at 9,000 rpm almost like a bike engine.
The 2.2 is a compromise that allowed for a little bit more low end torque but did not add any power. If they would've kept the 9,000 rpm redline they would have gotten the recognition.
I am still amazed at the old NSX 3.0 engines. I see guys at tracks with those early NSX's and the engines are like home appliances. They just work. Try that with the beasts BMW puts out. We just had a guy blow a euro S52 all over corner 5c at Mosport in April.

You can't compare the S52 3.2L L6 with the NSX 3.2L V6. The latter is built in much smaller quantities and utilizes exotics materials such as titanium connecting rods and but yet yields less specific power than the S52. I guess you can say it's tuned more conservatively?

what's amazing is that the S2000 in europe has had all the same updates as the american S2000... except the engine :)... they still get the 2.0l.
damn that sick, good job on bmw's behalf
