View Full Version : Mecaglisse questions??? Post here...
Hi guys,
As most of you know, we will be hosting an informational "tech session" during the Canadian GP brunch in two weeks [DETAILS HERE (http://www.bmwquebec.ca/bmw/home/gp_weekend_meet)].
The tech session is geared towards novice track drivers. We will cover how to prepare yourself and your car for a track weekend with the BMW Club of Quebec at our high-performance driving schools. Specific topics will include:
1) schedule
2) tech inspection
3) how to prepare your car
4) how to prepare yourself mentally and physically
5) what to bring with you
6) helmets and other specialty equipment
7) basic driving theory
8) quesiton and answer session
If you have any specific questions or would like a particular topic to be covered, please post in this thread. I will review the thread over the next week or two and make sure to include all the content you need. For those of you who will be joining us at our SummerDrift '05 High-Performance Driving School (http://www.bmwquebec.ca/bmw/upcoming_events/mecaglisse_2005) on Saturday 02 July 2005, this is a great opportunity to meet some the instructors and your fellow students and get your questions answered.
See you all soon,
Emre
Hey Emre. Have the BMW club members and the friends from the distribution list been notified by email about the GP event on Sunday?
Hey Emre. Have the BMW club members and the friends from the distribution list been notified by email about the GP event on Sunday?I'm afraid I don't know. It was Henry who organized the event this year.

hi guys, was wondering if there is any plans for a caravan up too mecaglisse on saturday morning???There is no "official" cruise. However, some of the students and instructors will be meeting at the Tim Hortons on Decarie and Jean-Talon (the one at the entrance to the Wal-Mart parking lot).
The cruise will LEAVE the Tim Hortons at 6:00 am so they can be at the track at 7:30 am. So, you should plan to get there before 6:00 am. If anyone needs gas, there's a PetroCan that sells 94 right across the road.
Here's a map and driving directions:

As you can see, there are a few different ways to get to the track. The simplest way by far is to take the 15 North to Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, get on the 329 North to St-Donat, then get on the 125 South to Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci. That's probably the best route for a large group of cars.

Hi Emre. I recommand that organizers be at the track for 7AM. There is a lot of work to do, and only one hour is not enough. I think that even drivers should be at the track for around 7AM. Registering, emptying the car, prepping it, having it inspected will require about 1h30. And drivers' meeting is 8h30.

That's the earliest we can get there (they won't open the gates earlier than that).
Karin feels she needs half an hour to set everything up before the first students start to arrive. She's asking the organizers, instructors, and volunteers to show up for 7:00am and the students to show up for 7:30am. One hour should be enough time to register and tech inspect 20 cars in time for the driver's meeting. If some students showed up at 7:00am, we wouldn't turn them away.

Great. Looking forward to this event.
i was going to ask for the best way up, but i think ill meet up for the cruise. The "best" (i.e., the shortest) way is to take the Papineau-Leblanc Bridge to Highway 25 North. That connects to Route 125 North and takes you straight into Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci. The problem with that route is you spend a LOT of time on local roads, both in downtown Montreal and once you get off Highway 25. If you have a large group of cars in a caravan, it's murder.
For the cruise, sticking to the 15 North is quicker and much easier. Also, you'll pass a couple of PetroCan's along the way, so you can fill up with 94 octane if you need to. BTW, you have to remember that the cruise is totally informal. I have no idea how many cars will be there, etc. There is no official "leader" or anything. So, everyone should look at the map and plan their own route. Figure at least one and a half hours to get from Montreal to the track.

So, Emre. What will be on the menu? German style Saurkraut, potatoes and sausages? If people bring guests, or for visitors, is it possible for them to join us for dinner? What will it cost for them? $10? $15 for main dish, dessert, drinks? Should they reserve in advance? Will we have dinner tickets to ensure there is no free-loader?

I will come at the informal cruise. Actually though, the less informal it is, the better. Imho it's the simplest solution to get there in time and best way to not get lost.
So, Emre. What will be on the menu? German style Saurkraut, potatoes and sausages?I don't want to spoil the surprise...but you're on the right track ;) We figured a Bavarian style menu would be appropriate for a Bavarian car club. Vegetarians beware...

People will be allowed to purchase extra tickets, but we'd like them to let us know ahead of time. Extra tickets will only be around $5-10 or so. I'll have to check with Karin to get the exact price.

I always like the "lone wolf" approach to getting to the track. As long as there are clear directions available.
I usually end up quicker at the destination that way. With a caravan it is often necessary to wait for stragglers. The problem is not with the highway drive as it does go fast enough but with all the interchanges and forks. I react much faster on my own in those and clear them very quickly.
