If you mean 'advancing' the timing ignition, it can't be adjusted on the M42.
If you want to set the cams to the proper 'stock' position, then, with the valve cover removed, you bring the #1 piston to TDC and the cams to close the valves on cyl#1, then you place a straight edge or ruler on the top of the alignment squares that are at the rear of the cams and move the cam in the sprocket until the two flats are in the same plane (same angle)
If you want to play with the cams for performance, you can have +/- 6 degree adjustement on each cam since the bolt holes of the sprockets are slotted. From what I read of guys doing it, the best setup is to advance the intake cam 5 degree, and don't touch the exhaust one.

Anyone already tried this on a M42 ?
how much of a power increase can it make ?

From what I've heard, if you play with the advance, you either end up winning power in the upper band and losing in the lower band or vise versa. I think the best way to win power with the M42 without investing too much money is the MarkD chip http://www.dsylva-tech.ca/

Merci.
